Artist Statement

Since embarking on my Master's in Art, Design, and Environment, I have developed a profound appreciation for the aura that radiates from old, photographs. These tattered, faded, and creased pieces of paper serve not only as vessels of immortality for those captured within them but also as keepers of our cultural and personal histories. They form a collage of fragmented moments in time, each image rich with often-overlooked details that create a spatiotemporal continuum, in stark contrast to our memories, which frequently contain gaps. My work pays homage to the analogue photograph within a digital framework. 

These digital prints focus on the lives of the 'Shackies' at Dennes Point, Bruny Island. The photographs are thoughtfully integrated into their original environments, reflecting the very places where they were taken. They engage with their surroundings through elements such as light filtering through grass or grains of sand softly blown across the image. Raindrops stain the photographic paper, and dust settles on the lids of canisters, providing tangible connections to both place and time, as these individuals once again pose for the camera.
